Kathy Lorraine Ferrell, 69, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Baileys Harbor, died early Thursday morning, July 10, 2014, at Golden Living Center-Dorchester.
She was born January 26, 1945, in Cokato, MN, the daughter of the late Lyle and Gladys (Oliver) Ferrell. Kathy graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1963 and later finished her nursing degree.
She worked for many years as an OR nurse and research nurse at the University of Minnesota Hospital. She then worked for several years at Motorola Communications in Milwaukee becoming one of their top salespersons of mobile phones. Kathy always loved Door County and was able to make her home there in 1991 when she bought Baileys Bluff Campground and later the Baileys Harbor Fast Stop. When she retired in 2003, she found joy volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and TAP.
Kathy loved gardening and music, especially folk and Irish music. She loved to laugh, dance and make people happy with her cooking and parties. In 1981, she became the first woman to be elected president of the Milwaukee Shamrock Club and was one of the pioneers of the Milwaukee Irish Fest.
Survivors include her two children, Lucy Hagen of Sturgeon Bay, Ted (Heidi Anderson) Hagen of Mequon; grandchildren, Kathryn Hagen, Mary (Mike Christenson) Hagen, Olivia Cagle; sister, LaVern Lahr of Cottage Grove, MN; many dear nieces and nephews, especially her closest friend and niece, Cindy Davis.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ralph Ferrell; two sisters, Lavonn Lahr, Lyla Schultz; and the love of her life, Dale Alsteen.
At her request, a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
