Bessie A. Remiszewski

Bessie Annette Remiszewski, 86, of West Jacksonport, was called home Tuesday evening, July 1, 2014, while at Ministry Door County Medical Center.

She was born Sebastiana Annette Turdo, August 29, 1927, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Rocco and Maria (Lombardo) Turdo. Bessie graduated from Lincoln High School in Milwaukee. She worked many years for Allen-Bradley Company in their circuit board manufacturing division.

On July 15, 1950, Bessie married Eugene Edward Remiszewski at Blessed Virgin of Pompeii Catholic Church in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2002.

She loved to crochet and go out with her family, friends, birthday club, and especially her dear friends, Paula, Joyce, and June. Bessie was very fashionable. She was a faith-filled, yet powerful and tough woman with a zest for life.

Bessie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jacksonport.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail (Gary) Birnschein of West Jacksonport; three grandchildren, Jason of Neenah, Shannon (Dan Cooley) Birnschein of Hartland, Amanda (fiancé, Mike Van Voorhis) Birnschein of Wauwatosa; brother, Leo (Donna) Turdo; sister, Mary Turdo both of Milwaukee; and many nieces and nephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents, Rocco and Maria Turdo; brother, Sebastiano “Bud” Turdo; and sisters, Rosalie Chounard and Margaret Dryfka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Stella Maris Parish-Jacksonport site (St. Michael’s Catholic Church) with Fr. Anthony Birdsall as celebrant. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

A very special thank you to Laurie, her caregiver, Cheryl, from Ministry Home Care, and to Dr. Hogan and his staff for the compassionate care given to Bessie. A very special thank you to Bessie’s friend, Gale, for her endless hours of companionship.

Huehns Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay is caring for the Remiszewski family. Online condolences and guestbook signing may be offered on Bessie’s tribute page at
