Eleanor Woerfel, 96, a long time resident of Fish Creek, passed away on Monday June 2, 2014 at Good Samaritan Scandia Village in Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Eleanor was born on August 17, 1917 in Baileys Harbor to Henry and Minnie (Lang) Schultz. She grew up in Baileys Harbor, graduated from Gibraltar High School and worked as a waitress at Hotel Ephraim and the Happy Hour Tea Shop in Fish Creek, where she met David Stuart Woerfel.
Eleanor married Stuart Woerfel, a commercial fisherman, together they raised four children and ran Dun-Rovin cottages in Fish Creek. They were happily married for 54 years. She was a member of the Fish Creek Community Church, Royal Neighbors, Fish Creek Women’s Club and Civic Club. She enjoyed being outdoors, swimming, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid baseball fan. Her keen sense of humor and a cheerful outlook on life touched many.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Donald Schultz), husband (David Stuart Woerfel), son (Craig Woerfel).
She is survived by a sister, Elaine Bonville of Fish Creek; two sons; Paul (Debby) Woerfel of Fish Creek; Mark (Sarah) Woerfel, Neenah Wisconsin, one daughter, Laurie Woerfel of Downey, California, one niece, one nephew; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A service to honor and celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held at the Community Church of Fish Creek at 11 AM on Friday June 6th, 2014. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 to 11 AM. Interment will be at Blossomburg Cemetery, Fish Creek.
