Elaine M. (O’Dean) Walker, 90, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully surrounded by her family on May 25, 2014, at Golden Living Center - Dorchester. She was born on September 23, 1923, to Carl and Lillian (Marcelle) O’Dean in Sturgeon Bay, WI.
She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School and married Merlin C. Walker in Sturgeon Bay on November 15, 1945. She worked at the Fawn Restaurant and Roy’s Drive-in for many years.
Elaine was a member of the St. Ann’s Society of Corpus Christi Parish. She worked many hours at church for various funerals, church picnics, bazaars, making quilts for missions, and for numerous other events that were held at church.
Elaine loved to bake and always sent samples home with whoever was visiting her at the time. She enjoyed attending events that her children and grandchildren were in and also enjoyed football, basketball, and playing baseball with her family. Elaine loved to put puzzles together, but best of all she loved going to lunch with her daughters and granddaughters.
Her love will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Lynn (Benny) Vandertie, Brussels; Sharon (Darryl) Smith, Susan (Larry) Lawbaugh, all of Sturgeon Bay; her son, David “Hiram” (Vicky) Walker, Sturgeon Bay; six grandchildren, Shannon (Jeff) Lau, Shelly Lau, Steffanie (Kevin) Rohr, Ryan Lawbaugh, Heidi Hegnet, and Jon (Jessica) Walker; ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice O’Dean; and brother, Allan (Pete) O’Dean, both of Sturgeon Bay; sister-in-law, May (Jack) Weber of Warrren, PA; as well as many, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; brothers and sisters-in-law, Loyal (Martha) O’Dean, Charles (Pat) O’Dean, and Frank O’Dean; and sister, Lila (Clarence) Vogel.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., May 31, 2014, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Corpus Christi Church. Thank you to Golden Living Center staff, especially the activity staff, for all the help and kindness shown to Elaine for the past 14 years. Also to Dr. Michalski, Dr. Beck and his nurse, Jane for providing the care which allowed our mother to have several more years with us. A special thanks to Susie who was always there for Mom.
