Ethel Dorothy Brey, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at Ministry Door County Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
She was born June 8, 1924, in Nasewaupee, the daughter of Mathew and Jordis (Gunderson) Gleasner. In 1947, she married Victor Brilla .On November 30, 1974, she married Raymond Anton Brey, and they had 17 wonderful years together.
She worked at Door County Hospital as a CNA for many years until she retired. Ethel was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, garage sales, going out to eat with friends, solving word search puzzles, flowers, listening to country music, ceramic painting with Delores at Betty Parmentiers, cruising the countryside and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Bierri (Rose) Brilla, Blair (Linda Ash) Brilla, both of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Brent (Kari) Brilla, Misty Brilla, both of Sturgeon Bay; great-grandchildren, Bausten, Tristan, Jordis, and Everett Brilla all of Sturgeon Bay; brother, Brent (Mary)Braun of Sturgeon Bay; sisters-in-law, Anna Marie “Squeak” Gleasner of Sturgeon Bay, Lucy Kluessendorf of Genesee Depot, WI; step-son, Raymond (Carol) Brey of Muskego, and their children, Pam (Israel) Benitez, Kim (Dan) Zaeske (and four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren), Chris (Mike) Hammond (and two great-grandchildren), step-son, Peter (Karen) Brey of Menomonee Falls, and his children, Peter (Kerri) Brey, (and one great-grandchild), Angie (Jason) Branch, (and one great-grandchild), step-daughter, Bette (Glenn) Sternard of Sturgeon Bay, and their children, Jennifer (Jason) Soper, (and one great-grandson, Logan), Julie (Luke) Evans, (and one great-grandson, Everett); many dear nieces, nephew, cousins and special friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands; daughter, Brenda Brilla Levenhagen; brothers, Bruce Braun, Emmett Gleasner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby (Ivan) Knutson, Beverly (Joe) Schauer; niece, Shelby Knutson.
Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Sunday, March 16, 2014, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be a service of remembrance at 3:30 p.m. with Fr. Bob Stegmann.
