Fred E. Neeley

Fred E. Neeley, 93, of Egg Harbor, died Wednesday morning, January 1, 2014, at Golden Living Center-Dorchester in Sturgeon Bay.

He was born January 29, 1920, in Lancaster, OH, to the late Charles and Vesta (Morrow) Neeley. Fred graduated from Lancaster High School in Ohio. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University and was also a trumpet player in the Ohio State University Marching Band. Fred honorably served his country with the United States Navy during WWII.

On June 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Ruth Snider in Kentucky. For 42 years, Fred worked for Owens Corning, a fiberglass products manufacturing company, retiring in January of 1983 as a customer service manager.

He and Ruth moved to Door County in 1985 after vacationing in Door County for many years prior. Fred was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Egg Harbor. He was also an active member of the Egg Harbor Lions Club, helping with numerous fundraising efforts over the years.

Fred was an avid golfer and had a love for both instrumental and vocal music, playing his trumpet in various bands/orchestras and singing in church choir. He was a proud, passionate fan of the Ohio State University Buckeyes.

Fred will be deeply missed by his wife of over 74 years, Ruth of Egg Harbor; three daughters and one son, Suzanne Beetham of Leander, TX, Thomas (Loretta) Neeley of Sylvania, OH, Marcia (William) Worley of Murfreesboro, TN, Polly (William) Kasdorf of Libertyville, IL; eight grandchildren, Mary Beetham Pratt, Christopher (Janet) Beetham, Mark (Joan) Neeley, Sarah (Randy) Meyer, Todd (Holly) Worley, Douglas (Donna) Worley, Anne (Matt) Kasdorf, Lauren Kasdorf; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert (Jean) Snider of Salem, SC; and other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Beetham, Elizabeth Neeley; brother, George (Florence) Neeley; and infant sister, Phyllis Neeley.

A funeral service honoring Fred’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Egg Harbor with Rev. Jane Sommers officiating. (There will be no visitation prior to the service.)

Burial will follow at Egg Harbor Town Cemetery.
