Ethel Tencate

Ethel Kristine Tencate, 95 passed away peacefully on December 17 at Dorchester Golden Living Center in Sturgeon Bay. She will have a graveside service for family members in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Ethel was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Swedish immigrants, Charles and Elenore Lindquist, on November 10, 1918. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage. She graduated from Austin High School in Chicago, Illinois. Ethel married Lambert Tencate in Chicago on July 13, 1940. Ethel and Lambert honeymooned in Door County staying at Emma Toft’s in Baileys Harbor. They continued to vacation in Door County every year staying at Little Sister Resort. After her husbands passing in 1997, she moved up to Sister Bay the following year.

Ethel was a member of the Sister Bay Moravian Church, Scandia Auxiliary, Infant Welfare Society Oak Park/River Forest Circle 14/16, Newcomers club of Oak Park, American Daughters of Sweden and The Art Institute of Chicago. Ethel taught Sunday school for many years at Lamon Avenue Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois. She loved volunteering at Bargains Unlimited in Sister Bay. She was a member of the Northern Door Women’s Club. Ethel was an avid bridge player and bowler.

Her parents Charles and Elenore Lindquist, and her beloved husband Lambert Tencate preceded her in death. Ethel is survived by her son Charles Tencate and daughter-in-law Lana Tencate of Ellison Bay; her two granddaughters, Kirsten (Randy) Emmerson of Alpharetta, Georgia and Britta (Charles) Wolfe of Sheboygan, Wisconsin: her great grandchildren, Zealand and Brynja Emmerson of Alpharetta, Georgia and Erik Wolfe of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

We wish to thank all the staff at Dorchester for their wonderful care and acts of kindness for our Mother. She loved everyone who cared for her and was so happy to live there in her senior years.
