Dorothy Mae Grovogel, 90, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away with her loving family at her side at Golden Living-Dorchester on December 12, 2013. She was born on December 9, 1923, in Sturgeon Bay to Admiral “Dewey” and Selma (Mickelson) Maples. Dorothy was raised by Amanda Maples after her mother Selma passed away. On June 28, 1941, she married Lloyd Grovogel in Sturgeon Bay, he preceded her in death on December 23, 1999.
Dorothy worked at H.C. Pranges for over 30 years and had been an active member at the United Methodist Church for many years. She loved music and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five children, Sharon (Mickey) Beard, Ellison Bay; Bonnie (Allen) Kolberg, Sturgeon Bay; Nanci (Richard) Moore, Sturgeon Bay; Gary Grovogel, Birch Harbor, ME; Scott Grovogel, Sturgeon Bay; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve, Violet, and Mary Lou. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, husband; two grandchildren, Kenny Kellstrom, and Stacy Beard.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Joe Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.
