Jean M. Tong, 88 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died Monday (December 2, 2013) at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born December 11, 1924, the daughter of the late Eugene Wallace and Ada (Adkins) Lake. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1941. On September 8, 1942 she married Leo Frederick Tong in Sturgeon Bay. They owned and operated Door County Skellgas Company in Sturgeon Bay until 1961, when they relocated to Phoenix, AZ. Jean continued working as an accountant and clerical worker while in Phoenix. In 1970 Leo was promoted and they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where they lived and worked until their retirement at which time they moved to Tucson, AZ in 1986. On July 14, 2008, Leo preceded her in death. Jean moved back to Sturgeon Bay in 2009.
After retiring Jean delved into family genealogical research for the Adkins and Lake Families. She had been a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Renee Hilander of Sturgeon Bay; three grandchildren, Kelly Hilander-Mattern of Phoenix, AZ, Carrie (Kevin) Ehring of Centerville, OH, Joel (Brigette) Hilander of Phoenix, AZ; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother, Pat Lake of Carlsville.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Eugene and Ada Lake; husband, Leo Tong; two sisters, Ada Zunk and Katherine Tallbot.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday (December 9, 2013) at Huehns Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery.
Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society for Research.
