Helen Marie Tappen, 90, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away early Saturday morning, November 30, 2013, at Whispering Heights CBRF, where she had resided the past three years.
She was born July 19, 1923, in Richland Center “Hood Hollow,” the daughter of the late Gaylord Irvin and Mabel (Ewing) Mullendore. Helen graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1941 and continued her education in nursing. She worked for Dr. Grota in Sturgeon Bay as a Registered Nurse for many years until he retired. Helen then worked for various dentists in Sturgeon Bay until her retirement.
She was a member of the Door County Historical Society. Helen enjoyed spending time with all her family, especially her grandchildren, and watching ball games.
She will be deeply missed by her four children, Bob Tappen of Green Bay, Christine (Bob) Brauer, Wayne (Julaine) Tappen, Beth (Mike) Anschutz, all of Sturgeon Bay; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Britt) Tappen of Casco, Adam (Amy) Tappen of Lake in the Hills, IL, Scott (Melissa) Brauer of Abrams, Lisa Bley of Jacksonport, Josh (Becky) Tappen of Green Bay, Katrina (Tony) Estrada of Sturgeon Bay; Amy (Dan) Anschutz of Milwaukee; Karen (Bert) Anschutz of Sturgeon Bay; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, James (Nancy) Mullendore of Pennsylvania; and her half-sister, Gail (daughter, Katya) Mullendore of Sturgeon Bay.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Karen Tappen (1966); step-mother, Mildred Mullendore; siblings, Gaylen and Arthur Mullendore, and Myra Dressel.
Private family services will be held later in December at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Larry Zessin officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Helen’s name for Whispering Heights in Sturgeon Bay.
