Joan “Punney” E. Ek, 82, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home suddenly, Monday, October 21, 2013, at Ministry Door County Medical Center Emergency Room.
She was born March 13, 1931, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Albertson) Will. Joan graduated from Gibraltar High School. She had worked as a seamstress for the Arrows Shirt Company in Eveleth, Minnesota for many years.
Joan was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, and a longtime member of the VFW Auxilliary. She enjoyed fishing with her family, especially when her children were young, at the Boundary Waters. Her grandchildren were her passion now and she also enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include her four children, Bonnie (Dennis) Sargent of Sturgeon Bay, Peggy Ek of Tennessee, Gerald Ek of Merrill, Wisconsin, Shirley (Charles) Bothwell of Virginia, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Dorothy (Dennis) Laaksonen of Sturgeon Bay; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Joyce (James) Bushey, Shirley Schultz; and infant grandson, Gary Christopher Ek.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Friday, October 25, 2013, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Nathan Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Little Sister Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m.
