Doris Ann (Hartel) Duerst, 81, was born into eternal life to be with Jesus on October 17, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 10, 1932 in Institute Door County, to Harry and Lillian (Simon) Hartel. Doris married Milton Duerst on January 13, 1951 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Institute.
Doris was a very generous person in so many ways including knitting scarves for all the girls at St. Mary Grade School, giving to many charities and organizations, helping at the meal site at the Algoma United Methodist church, crocheting afghans, and being a part of the sweaters knitting club with the ladies of the Algoma Methodist Club.
Her children will always remember her spunk when it came to her many quotes like "Wait until your father gets home", and "What are you eating". She also talked about the two motorcycle rides she had with her son Tom at the age of 78 at a family reunion and at the age of 79 for Memorial Day. Doris's biggest joy was caring for all of her grandchildren. When they were around her she always had the biggest smile on her face. Doris was a godmother to several people who loved her dearly.
