Lucia Tenney

Lucia Waterman Rogers Tenney, age 90, of Madison, passed away at the family's cabin in Door County on May 5, 2013. Lucia was born in Providence, Rhode Island, daughter of Marion Richmond Gardner Rogers and Samuel Greene Arnold Rogers. Lucia graduated from West High School in Madison and from the University of Wisconsin with a major in Zoology. While at the University she was a member of two honorary societies, Sigma Epsilon Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After graduation she completed a semester of graduate work in parasitology.

On June 10, 1944 she married Horace K. Tenney III, son of Dr. and Mrs. H. Kent Tenney Jr. of Madison. Lucia and Horace moved a number of times during his Navy service and medical training. They settled in Madison in 1950 where Horace joined his father in pediatric practice and they raised their four children.

Lucia's great interests were her family, dancing (especially ballet), and her cherished dogs. She was a member of the Madison Art Guild.

She is survived by her children, Marion Rosenau of Amherst, Massachusetts, Katherine Potter (Toby) of Portage, Wisconsin, Cornelia Tenney (Paul Gross) of Newton, Massachusetts, and Kent F. Tenney (Kathy) of Ashland, Wisconsin. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In July, 2010 she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Horace, after sixty-six years of happy marriage. She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Henry G. Rogers, her sister, Cornelia Sanna, and her son-in-law, John Rosenau.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Agrace Hospice Care, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or to Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, WI 53718.
