Evelyn L. Stoeger, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, died Tuesday evening (June 4, 2013) at Pine Crest Village with family at her side.
She was born December 4, 1923 in Sturgeon Bay the daughter of the late Fred and Minnie (Fandrei) Speerschneider. Evelyn graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1941. On January 6, 1945 she married Raymond Stoeger at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy. After farming, they owned and operated Stoeger Implement on the West side of Sturgeon Bay. Ray preceded her in death in 1995. She also worked at Anderson Laundry in Baileys Harbor, the Alpine, and Milwaukee Shoe Company. After Ray died she sold the farm in 1996 and purchased a lovely home in Sturgeon Bay where she lived until she moved to Pine Crest in December, 2010.
She was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy. Evelyn was an avid gardener. She enjoyed playing cards especially sheepshead, camping, wintering in Texas, fish boils, the golden agers, and dancing with the Peninsula Prominaders.
Survivors include her two children, Beverly Luethge of Sturgeon Bay, Roger (Shelly) Stoeger of Wales, WI; six grandchildren, Cathy (Larry) Ahlin (and their children, Ben of Atlantic Beach NC, Zach, Jake) of Yorktown, VA, Karen (Brenen) Sieber (and their daughter, Addison) of Grafton, Amy (Corey) Johnson (and their son, Peyton) of Jupiter, FL, Grant Stoeger of Milwaukee, Chase (Molly) Stoeger (and their daughter, Silvia) of Milwaukee, Allison (fiancé, Matt Handrick) of Leadville, CO; and her sister, Mardell (Elton) Eliason of Sturgeon Bay, nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; Fred and Minnie Speerschneider; husband, Raymond; son-in-law, Bob Luethge; granddaughter’s husband, Jeff DeJardin; sister, Lillian Gericke; brother, Lester Speerschneider; brother-in-law, Red Stoeger; and sister-in-law, Georgie Staver.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday (June 9, 2013) at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy with Rev. Benjamin Enstad officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 3:00 p.m.
