Bernice Lydia (Krueger) Karas, 90, of Forestville, passed away at Ministry Door County Medical Center on June 4, 2013. She was born on April 21, 1923, in Sturgeon Bay to Herbert and Ida (Wilke) Krueger. On October 26, 1946, she married Kenneth Karas Sr. in Sturgeon Bay, he preceded her in death on December 11, 2005. Bernice was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and had been active in the Ladies Aid Group for many years. During her lifetime, she farmed, worked at the Milwaukee Shoe Factory, Amity Leather Products, and later owned Karas’s Bar in Maplewood with her husband. After she retired, she liked gardening, playing cards, and attending P.B.I. Retiree events.
Survivors include four sons, Dennis (Rosemary), DePere; Darrel (Rosie), Brussels; Kenneth Jr. (Debra), Sturgeon Bay; William (Susan), Sturgeon Bay; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Carol) Krueger, Forestville; Herbert Krueger, Valders. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Leonard and Milton Krueger; six sisters, Mabel Grovogel, Margaret Wiesner, Grace Long, Helen Neinas, Florence Sixel, and Elaine Sperber.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday June 7, 2013, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Zessin officiating. Burial will be in Forestville Town Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of services on Friday at the church. The Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
