Merlin G. Walker

Merlin George Walker, 70, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, went to be with the Lord, Sunday afternoon, June 2, 2013, while at Ministry Door County Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 1, 1942, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Howard and Grace (Maccaux) Walker. Merlin graduated from high school in Door County in 1960 and went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. He worked as a member of the military police in Ft. Sheridan, IL, and in Korea and was also a presidential escort guard for John F. Kennedy. After serving, Merlin worked as a prison guard in Green Bay, WI. While in Crivitz, he owned and operated the LeRock Bar. Merlin spent much of his life working in sales, most notably for Evers Heilig, a food products company. He was the general manager for Evers Heilig when they opened their Wisconsin location. 

Merlin met Judith Burns in 2000, and they were united marriage later that year, September 16, 2000, in Alpena, MI. They were blessed with nearly 13 years together. In Sturgeon Bay, Merlin and Judy were members of Family Worship Center. 

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and boating. Merlin also enjoyed golfing with friends and family, bowling, and playing in the softball league when he was living in Crivitz. 

Merlin will be deeply missed by his wife, Judy of Sturgeon Bay; three sisters, Bernice Lasee, Mary Hartel, both of Sturgeon Bay, Georgianne (Karl) Kodanko of Oshkosh, WI; six brothers, Wally (Doris) of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Frank of Rock Hill, SC, Marvin (Beth) of Sebring, FL; Robert (friend, Muggsy) of Buehl, MN, Daniel (Laurie) of Sturgeon Bay, Howard of  Tomah, WI; aunts; uncles; many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Pauline; infant brother, Charles; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Morris (Jean), Ken (Arlene), Merlin; other sisters-in-law, Hazel Walker, Marty Walker; and brother-in-law, Andy Hartel.

A memorial service honoring and celebrating Merlin’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Family Worship Center in Sturgeon Bay, with Dr. Mark Schwarzbauer officiating. Full military honors by the United States Army and AMVET Post 51 will follow at the church. Family and friends may call at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services at 3:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Merlin’s family.
