Sandra Jeanette Larson, 70, of Sturgeon Bay, waltzed out of this happy life on May 13, 2013, to join her relatives and friends in the eternal dance we all are invited to.
She was born to Martin and Jessie (Honold) Smejkal on October 5th, 1942, in Sturgeon Bay. She attended St Joseph Catholic School, Sturgeon Bay High School and Manitowoc Technical College. She began her working career at Fischer’s Foodliner in Sturgeon Bay and credited her customer service skills to Carl and Ruth. She then worked for Lakeside Company in Manitowoc and treasured her friendships with those gals. She started her 29 ½ year beloved career at the Sturgeon Bay Utilities as customer service supervisor. After her retirement, with the help of her friend Pat, she continued to organize gatherings of the retired and 25 year employees of the Utilities. Since 1998, she had been Salon Coordinator for Details Hair Innovations in Egg Harbor. Her beautiful sparkly greeting and smile will be sadly missed, along with the gift of working alongside of daughter, Polly. If you asked her how she was, she would say “I’m grand” and grand she was.
She enjoyed care giving, walking her dog and especially tending her gardens. But the loves of her life were her family - the time she spent with them is forever in her heart. She loved baking for them and doing her “Cookie Factory.”
On September 1st, 1962, she married Rodger Thomas Larson at St Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Together they were blessed with three daughters. Margaret (Rick) Wendt, Pauline “Polly” (Grant “Butch”) Swagel and Jennifer “Penny” (Robert “Bob” Jr) Kramer. They in turn gave her three grandchildren - Alexandra & Dominick Wendt and Lydia Kramer.
Preceding her were her parents, mother and father-in-law Sophie and Thomas, “Auntie” and many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws, Orv & Karen Larson, Millard & Marie Larson, Howard & Ruby Larson, Gerald & Pat Larson, Lawrence George and Alvin Dix.
Surviving are her husband Rodger, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren - all who gave her loving care throughout her pancreatic cancer in 2009 and its 2012 return. She is further survived by one sister, Mary (Richard) Young and her sons Shaun & Shad and their families, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Larson, Sylvia Dix, Ardy & Don Lauscher, Pete & Marlene Larson, Carol & Russ Skovera and Marie & Ron Weber and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Sat. May 18, 2013, at Corpus Christi Church. Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, from 4-8 pm at the Forbes Funeral Home with a rosary to be held at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of mass. Memorials may be made in her name to Corpus Christi Parish and Door CANcer Inc.
Special thanks to Dr Evans, Dr Groteluschen, Mary Capell, nurses and staff at Sturgeon Bay Oncology, Ministry Home Care, Hospice from Unity, Father Carl, family and friends.
