Ann Katherine 'Katie' Jacobs Sertich

Katie Jacobs, 58, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2013. She was born February 19, 1955 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Marjorie Hester Jacobs and the late James Peter Jacobs.

A 1973 graduate of Gibraltar High School, Fish Creek, Wisconsin and she attended the University of New Mexico. She started her professional career as a waitress at an Albuquerque Holiday Inn and eventually became a supervisor of the worldwide reservation network at Holiday Inn’s corporate headquarters in Memphis.

In 1989, Katie married the love of her life Charles “Chuck” Sertich, a longtime employee of FedEx, in downtown Memphis. They moved to Germantown shortly afterwards. Katie survived her husband of 23 years after lovingly caring for him during his long battle with cancer.

Katie had a passion for gardening and a particular love for her childhood hometown on the Door Peninsula of Wisconsin where she vacationed with her family every summer on the shores of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Active in the Germantown community and educational system, she was a member of the Dogwood Elementary, Houston Middle and High School PTA boards for many years. She was awarded two Lifetime Achievement Awards for service with the PTA.

She is survived by sons Charles Nicholas “Nick” Sertich and Jacob “Jake” Matthew Sertich of Germantown, Tennessee; mother Marjorie Jacobs of Sister Bay, WI; six brothers - Peter (Jave), John (Barb), Rick (Jodi), Carl (Ann) , Erich (Karen) and Kurt (Lauren) Jacobs; thirteen nieces and nephews; and loyal companions Dexter and Amber. We will all miss her very much.

A gathering of friendship and sharing will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday April 13at the Memphis Botanic Garden, Goldsmith Room and adjacent gardens, 750 Cherry Rd, Memphis, TN. The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers or gifts.
