A quick fix now and a more involved project down the road.
That's the game plan for a congested stretch of Highway 42/57 near Forest Road in the Town of Sevastopol.
On Friday, town officials, property owners and others met with state transportation officials at the Sevastopol Town Hall to discuss options.
In the end, town officials agreed to pursue two courses of action.
The first -- and least expensive -- involves putting in a paved shoulder on Hwy 42/57 southbound near Forest Road so motorists who aren't turning left have a way to safely get by. Town Chairman Leo Zipperer says the town will work on securing the necessary permits from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for that work, which could be completed this year.
The second item involves realigning Forest Road so it "squares up" better with the highway. That project could be a year or two down the road, but it's possible it may be eligible for some state funds as part of the DOT's Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP).
