The U.S. Coast Guard is teaming up with local maritime enforcement agencies Friday through Sunday for Operation Dry Water.
According to Senior Chief Wayne Spritka at USCG Station Sturgeon Bay, the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Door County Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin DNR will be patrolling the waters along with the Coast Guard.
"I equate this much like the Click it or Ticket Campaign on the water for drunken boating violation," says Spritka.
The annual, nationwide campaign aims to crackdown on boating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The USCG Recreational Boating Statistics for 2012 indicate alcohol as the leading factor in nearly 17% of boating fatalities last year.
