Kewaunee Man Arrested Following Door County Chase

A City of Sturgeon Bay squad car got sideswiped during an early morning chase in southern Door County that resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old Kewaunee man.

Door County Sheriff Terry Vogel says Donald Gronke was taken into custody on bail jumping and other charges after an 8.3 mile chase that ended after authorities used stop sticks on County PD near Hoffman Road in the Town of Nasewaupee.

Vogel says a Door County sheriff's deputy started the chase at Hwy 42/57 and County PD around 1:40 a.m. Thursday for operating left of center and a Sturgeon Bay police officer joined the pursuit. Vogel says the city squad got sideswiped during the chase, which he says reached speeds of 75 mph.

The sheriff says alcohol isn't believed to be a factor in the incident and no injuries were reported.

Gronke faces third-degree sexual assault charges in Kewaunee County and was free on bond.

Vogel says Gronke was arrested on charges of eluding an officer, reckless driving and bail jumping, and will likely be cited for several traffic offenses, including not having a valid driver's license.

Gronke is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Door County Court on June 24.
