The Jacksonport Fire Department exhibited its new Sealegs amphibious rescue boat Saturday morning at Lakeside Park in Jacksonport.
The boat, which does not require a boat launch, is the only one of its kind in Wisconsin. All the crew has to do is drive it off of the trailer and into the water. Fire chief Tom Ash says response times will be cut drastically.

As soon as the ice melted Ash had his crew out training to drive the boat. He says six firefighters are fully trained and they’ll continue to train over the summer.
Ash is proud to say the town did not need to increase the tax levy to purchase the $100,000 boat. About 43% of the funding came through donations and the fire department budget covered the rest.
