A mock traffic accident is planned for Thursday evening on Washington Island.
Washington Island Police Officer Gary Schultz says the exercise will provide training for emergency responders and also serve as an educational opportunity for students and adults.
Schultz didn't want to give too many details but says it will be a large-scale accident with multiple patients that will "really stress" their department resources.
Schultz says the Island doesn't experience a lot of emergency dispatch calls over the course of a year so such training -- especially the type that takes place in real time -- is extremely beneficial.
Schultz says they're going to make things look as real as possible and will have members of the student group Project 180 playing the part of accident victims.
The event will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. behind the school on Lake View Road. Parking will be available at the Community Center.
Schultz says an area will be roped off where spectators can observe.
"We want people to see what we're doing," says Schultz. "We're pretty proud of what we have here on the Island and want people to see what we actually can do."
