Kewaunee County is the second-healthiest county in the state according to a recent study. And Door County is just three spots behind.
The study is a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and ranks counties based on a wide variety of factors, including mortality rates, environment, unemployment, income, and rates of smoking, obesity and teen births.
Door County Health Director Rhonda Kolberg says the study is well done and one that many in the health profession pay attention to.
Despite being ranked fifth out of 72 counties Kolberg says there is room for improvement.
Kolberg says Door County ranked eighth last year.
In terms of individual categories, Door County did very well in Physical Environment, ranking second.
Kewaunee County ranked third in Physical Environment and was number one in the state in terms of low mortality.
