One more 1,000-foot ship left Sturgeon Bay Tuesday morning, tying up traffic downtown around 9:30. Julie Cook at Bay Shipbuilding says there are five ships left in the yard. Cook explains that the departure times are completely up to the captain of each ship once inspections are complete. For example, five ships that were scheduled to leave over the past weekend did not. Bay Shipbuilding only receives notice a few hours before they leave.
Bay Shipbuilding has completed its work on the winter fleet and the ships are being inspected. Cook expects a "few" more of the remaining ships to head for open water Wednesday.
