A small misunderstanding between the Yacht Club at Sister Bay and the Village of Sister Bay seems to have been cleared up. A few months ago the Yacht Club informed the condo owners that they were paying twice for garbage pickup – once through condo association dues and again in their property taxes. Condo Association President Stan Slabas says the board alerted owners at the annual owners meeting in October.
Slabas received a letter from Village Administrator Bob Kufrin that included the related village ordinance explaining how garbage collection works.
After reviewing the ordinance, Slabas says the board decided not to pursue the issue further. He says condo owners pay between $104 and $136 in property taxes for garbage collection depending on their unit and didn’t have exact amount that the owners pay through the association, but says the amount is quite a bit higher than the portion paid through property taxes.
Kufrin says the village has denied 15-20 claims of unlawful taxation from owners at the past few board meetings.
