For the past six years Door County Director of Human Services Joe Krebsbach has been working with six other counties in northeastern Wisconsin, including Kewaunee County, to get a state-funded, long term health care program extended to their counties. Krebsbach says it looks like they will have to keep working.
57 Wisconsin counties have Family Care, but Governor Walker’s proposed 2013-15 state budget does not include funding to expand the program.
Krebsbach says in the Northeast Wisconsin Family Care District (NEWFC) there are more than 1,000 people waiting; some of them have been waiting for years. Since there is no state-funded program, Krebsbach explains the residents are on waiting lists for waiver programs.
The state has provided funding for NEWFC to plan and prepare for the implementation of Family Care, but hasn’t come through on funding the implementation. Krebsbach says NEW FC will continue meeting with its legislators to get a bill drafted for the state Joint Finance Committee to review.
