Economic development officials in Kewaunee County will be receiving $50,000 in state funds to help replace lost jobs and build economic activity following the planned closing of the Kewaunee Power Station.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is providing the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation with a $50,000 Capacity Building grant to assist the county in creating economic development strategies in response to the nuclear plant’s closure.
KCEDC Executive Director Jennifer Brown says the funding is positive news not only from a financial support standpoint but from a leadership standpoint.
Dominion Resources Inc. of Virginia, which owns the facility, plans to shut down power generation on May 7.
Layoffs of workers affected by the closure will take place in waves following May 7. The plant employs about 650 people.
