The U.S. Navy has announced it's providing funding for two more littoral combat ships to be built in Marinette.
Lockheed Martin Corp. is receiving $696.6 million to construct the ships at Marinette Marine Corp., the sister company of Sturgeon Bay's Bay Shipbuilding.
The ships are expected to be finished by July 2018.
In 2010, Lockheed Martin secured a Navy contract to build 10 of the speedy, shallow draft vessels in Marinette.
The other half of the contract includes 10 ships being built by Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama.
Navy officials have said they'd like to build up to 55 of the specialized ships over the next 15 years.
