Most companies keep records of their sales and a database of their customers and Luxemburg-Casco teacher Cassidy McGowan says the same procedure should be true for all gun sales, including private sales.
One thing the Democrats and Republicans agree on in the push for gun law reform is performing background checks on buyers in private gun sales; however the Republicans say they won't approve of any legislation that includes a national gun database.
McGowan doesn't want to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to buy guns, but the country's high gun violence rate disgusts him.
Improving the background check system to include private sales would be difficult to enforce, especially if there is no record keeping of the private sales to allow oversight into the process. McGowan says it's something the country should try.
