Anyone who is overweight or obese has their own unique reasons for losing weight and maintaining the weight loss. However, there is usually a common theme: to improve one's health. In any weight loss program, learning some of the known health benefits is a great place to get started and motivate you toward success.
Weight loss can be a daunting task, but do you know how much of your body weight you need to lose in order to reap the benefits? Just 10 percent! Specifically for those who are overweight or obese, losing 10 percent of your body weight can result in big benefits. This weight loss could reverse or prevent diabetes, lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol and triglycerides and improve sleep disorders. Weight loss studies consistently show a pattern of disease reduction with just 10 percent of body weight loss.
Aside from the physical health benefits, the emotional benefits of improved self esteem, better mood and increased motivation can take a person to a new level of health and wellness, with an ultimate goal of getting to a normal weight. What is your 10 percent? Think the weight of these everyday objects: two gallons of milk weighs about 15 pounds; a case of bottled water weighs about 24 pounds; and 30 pounds is the size of an average 2 year old! What if you had to carry these objects around all day long? Think of how much lighter you would feel without the burden of the weight.
Use the 10 percent rule as a goal or stepping stone to get you to a normal body weight. You will experience the health benefits and certainly "Feel Better and Live Longer!"
