Door County was blessed with more snow across the peninsula on Thursday. All cross country ski areas are open in the county. Though we do have warmer temperatures and rain forecast for Sunday, Saturday should be an ideal day to go cross country skiing this weekend.
Potawatomi State Park: Excellent condition. Ski trails were groomed on Friday. Skate lanes were rolled and tracks were set. Tracks are very nice but the skate lanes are soft. This last snow filled in some of the low spots and covered sections where ice had developed from the last melt down. If we don't get a lot of rain on Sunday the base should hold up well. (2/8/13 Ron Maloney)
Whitefish Dunes State Park: Good to very good condition. New snow since last grooming, approximately 4". All trails were rolled and tracked. Trail is firming up, but still somewhat soft. Track was set to full depth and should set up overnight. Trail debris has been minimal. (2/8/13 Rich Dirks)
Crossroads at Big Creek: Approximately 4" of new snow on Thursday. All trails rolled and tracked on Friday afternoon and should set up nicely over night. Conditions are very good. Skiing should be great on Saturday. Weather will determine the condition of the trails for Sunday. (2/8/13 Jim Maki)
Peninsula State Park: Good to very good condition. By 10:00 am on Friday everything will be groomed. Bob is finishing up on the purple and white. The trails are as good as they have been in many years. 7-8 inches of snow total with about a 5-6 inch base. Skate may be a little soft but there is a good base below so should be good skating also. (2/8/13 Greg Sunstrom).
Newport State Park: 8+ inches of fresh new snow has fallen! All trails are open for skiing and snowshoeing, but they are not yet groomed. The groomer hopes to get out Friday to get everything done. (1/31/13 Casey St Henry)
