City of Sturgeon Bay officials continue to work toward sprucing up the city's west side waterfront.
Community Development Director Marty Olejniczak says the city's efforts got a boost in December with a $440,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to purchase the former Door County Cooperative parcel.
Olejniczak says the city closed on the property December 28.
Olejniczak says a recent environmental site assessment identified a number of potential environmental concerns with the parcel, but it wasn't anything the city didn't anticipate.
A four seasons market showcasing Door County products is eyed as one of the key pieces to the redevelopment of the west waterfront.
Members of the Waterfront Redevelopment Authority got an update during their meeting Monday and also discussed the formation of a new tax increment district to help facilitate development.
