The Southern Door School District will be expanding its fitness center hours at the end of the month to encourage more community members to utilize the facility. Superintendent Patti Vickman says the center has been open Tuesday and Thursday nights for a few hours, but the school Finance Committee and Partners in Health and Wellness Committee suggested exploring expanding the center’s hours.
The Talon Fitness Center will be open to Southern Door community residents who watch a training video and sign a waiver. The Partners in Health and Wellness Committee also played a big role in developing a walking trail that skirts the perimeter of the school property.
Phase one of the Eagle Trail is complete and open to community members thanks to grants and donations. The trail is about a mile in length and is handicap accessible, but Vickman hopes it won’t stop there.
There is no extra room in the district budget, so the completion of the final phases relies on donations.
