A few very important issues face the Kewaunee County Board this year. County Administrator Ed Dorner says one important decision they will have to make is whether or not to expand the county landfill. Deciding not to expand it would ultimately lead to its closure.
The county will also have to deal with the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant shut down. The plant employs about 650 workers.
Dorner says the board will need to make some money-saving decisions regarding the highway department.
There are no capital improvement projects on the docket for 2013 in Kewaunee County, but Dorner says that’s because the county constructed a new exhibit hall and office at the county fairgrounds in 2012 and the rest of the county is in pretty good shape.
The board may address building a new jail within the next few years, but Dorner says it’s not an immediate necessity.
