Oregon Street could be the next Sturgeon Bay street to receive bike lanes.
Sturgeon Bay's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board January 3 approved of painting bike lanes on both sides of Oregon Street from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue.
Board Chair Bob Schlicht says that two-block stretch immediately to the east of the Oregon Street Bridge is properly set up to accommodate the lanes and doing so is consistent with the city's bicycling master plan. And he says it should help with safety in what can be a congested area.
Schlicht says the cost of paint and labor would be approximately $500, an amount that's not currently a part of the city's 2013 budget.
Schlicht says the panel's recommendation will be taken up by the Parking & Traffic Committee in January or February and, if approved, would head to the Common Council.
Bike lanes were painted on Michigan Street in 2012.
