Folks will be starting off the New Year with a shock in Jacksonport during the 27th Annual Jacksonport Polar Bear Swim on Tuesday. Jon Jarosh, Vice President of the Jacksonport Polar Bear Club, says he takes a dip in Lake Michigan every New Years Day to continue a fun, family tradition.
Jarosh estimates they’ll have 600-800 people participate in the swim this year based on participation the past few years. The Polar Bear Club doesn’t charge anything to participate in or watch, but they will be selling club t-shirts to benefit the Jacksonport Fire Department as a thank you.
Swimmers will have to sign a release of liability; registration starts at 10:30 at Lakeside Park in Jacksonport. The swim begins promptly at noon.
