After her first Mitten Toss was a success, Paige Kassner received a $4,000 donation from the ShopKo Foundation to use for her Warm Hands Warm Hearts Project. 13-year-old Kassner says receiving the grant was a surprise, but she knew just how to use it.

The winter gear was delivered to the families just in time for Christmas. Kassner founded the project when she was 10 years old after she forgot her own hat and mittens at home one day.
This year Kassner and the Kewaunee Public Relations Committee are teaming up again to organize the 2nd Annual Mitten Toss. Fans will toss hats, mittens and other winter gear onto the basketball court during halftime of the Algoma vs. Kewaunee girls’ basketball game February 1, 2013 at the Kewaunee High School Gym.
