The Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door Fire Departments are now equipped to help pets recover from smoke inhalation at the scene of a fire.
Southern Door Fire Department Fire Chief Chuck Cihlar says both departments received three oxygen mask kits - small, medium and large sizes - designed to fit dogs and cats.
The estimate of pet deaths caused by fires is about 40,000 per year. The oxygen mask kits were a donation from Invisible Fence in an effort to save more pets. Cihlar is thankful for the donation, but hopes his crew won’t need to use the masks.
