So far one challenger has stepped forward for the office of Sturgeon Bay mayor and another candidate has taken out papers to run for a soon-to-be-vacant aldermanic seat.
City Clerk Stephanie Reinhardt says Mayor Thad Birmingham, elected to the post in April 2010, has taken out papers to run again; John Wade also has taken out papers to run for the position. Wade ran unsuccessfully in the Sturgeon Bay mayoral primary in February 2010.
As of Monday afternoon, one person -- Ed Ireland -- had taken out papers to run for the District 3 aldermanic seat. Ireland was defeated by incumbent John Lodl in the April 2011 election. Lodl is ineligible to run this time around because redistricting moved him out of the 3rd District.
The incumbents in the other three aldermanic seats up for election -- Dan Wiegand, Joe Stutting and Bob Schlicht -- all have taken out papers to run again but so far no challengers have emerged.
The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers is Wednesday, January 2 at 5 p.m.
