Vehicle traffic won't be affected, but the sidewalk on the Bayview Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will be closed starting Tuesday, December 11.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the sidewalk will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The closure will remain in effect until the Door County snowmobile trails open, since the walkway is the snowmobile connection to trails south of the ship canal.
The closure is needed to complete electrical work on the bridge. The work is part of a $4.8 million project which will include structural steel repair, bridge painting, electrical and machinery system upgrades, and an overlay of the bridge deck and approaches.
The bridge will remain open to vehicle traffic until March, when the bridge will be closed and traffic will be detoured through the city of Sturgeon Bay.
The Bayview Bridge was opened in 1978. The DOT says the last major bridge repairs were done in 2004.
