
The Door County Library is offering some special programs and some varied hours during the holiday season. The complete rundown is below.
TOPIC: DECEMBER 8-14 Miller Art Museum
The Miller Art Museum, located within the Door County Library in Sturgeon Bay, is a wonder-filled place to visit this month. Adorning the walls are works of art inspired by Door County Land Trust nature preserves – with all seasons and art media represented. Come see what scenes you’d like to walk right into – or discover for yourself in person! In addition to the gifts of nature, holiday shoppers will find a wide variety of unique gift items available. Among other items, there are pottery pieces, Christmas cards, baskets, 2013 pocket calendars, handmade ornaments, books for adults and kids, stocking stuffers and jewelry. Both the Holiday Gift Shop and the current “This Land is Your Land” exhibit will be open through Saturday, December 22 at 5:00 p.m. (107 S 4th Avenue)
TUESDAY DECEMBER 11

Story Time for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and their adults. Enjoy “Happy Holiday Books” this week. No registration is necessary; walk-ins are welcome.

Kids age 8 and older are invited to today’s “Craft Projects for Kids by Kids” session. Make your own puppets, share ideas, create projects, and have fun with other “crafty” kids! This will be the final crafting session for this program.
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 12

Children, ages 4-10 are invited to be creative with supplies for “Make-and-Take Seasonal Crafts.” Today’s theme is Glitter-rama. Supplies and ideas for winter mini-projects will be provided at a crafting table in the entrance to the children’s room of the library. Younger children will need supervision and assistance to make their creations. All are welcome.
THURSDAY DECEMBER 13

Kids, come read a book to “Barley,” a gentle, friendly golden retriever therapy dog. Kids are invited to take turns reading out loud to Barley --- He’s a quiet, non-judgmental listener who loves to be read to! Call 746-7119 for more information. TOPIC: DECEMBER 14-21 DOOR COUNTY READS 2013 -- Coming in January
Join us throughout Door County as we celebrate reading “The Beekeeper’s Apprentice” by Laurie R. King. The book is a light mystery with Sherlock Holmes and his young apprentice as the main characters. Overall funding for the Door County Reads program is provided by the Door County Library Foundation, and The Friends of Door County Libraries organization has generously purchased copies of the book to give to readers throughout the county. Books will be available at all Door County libraries as early as January 2.
Door County Reads 2013 events will run from January 21 to February 16, and will include a variety of activities for mystery readers of all ages. Details will soon be available. www.doorcountylibrary.org

Participants will listen to holiday-themed books today and create unique “make-and-take” Christmas projects before enjoying special edible treats. Families of all ages are always welcome. This is the last Stories & Fun session for the year, the next program will be on January 4, 2013.

Families are invited to the Popcorn Movie Matinee today. Watch “Brave” with your friends and family, and enjoy this animated film in which Princess Merida defies a custom, and brings chaos to her kingdom. At 5:00 p.m. the Museum will close. It will reopen on Saturday, February 2, with the “Show and Tell” exhibit of personal favorites from the collections of invited art collectors.
