Sevastopol School has received two grants from the Women’s Fund of Door County that will send all girls in 7th and 8th grade to UW Stevens Point on February 22nd. At the college, the girls will be taking part in learning activities through a program called STEM. STEM -- which stands for science, technology, engineering, and math -- is a program that attempts to give girls a chance to witness certain career fields in which there are not many female workers. High school science teacher Katie Rock helped the school to secure one of the grants.
Middle school student Lexie LeClair is looking forward to the trip in February.
With the grant that the school received, the junior high girls at Sevastopol will be able to learn about different careers for free.
