A man who represented Door and Kewaunee counties in state government for more than 20 years has died.
Lary Swoboda, who served in the 1st Assembly District from 1971 until 1994, died Sunday at the age of 73.
The Press-Gazette says Swoboda became ill at home after playing cards with friends the night before.
In a statement, current 1st District Assemblyman Garey Bies called Swoboda a "dedicated public servant" and "tireless advocate" for the people of the 1st Assembly District.
"He was always willing to work with every member of the legislature to address the needs of the communities he served and the people he represented," said Bies.
Swoboda also had a Ph.D. and worked as a high school principal.
