Not such a long season and not so close to Gibraltar School.
Those are two concerns Rep. Garey Bies (R-Sister Bay) has regarding the implementation of Wisconsin Act 168, the law going into effect January 1 that will allow hunting and trapping in Wisconsin's state parks.
In a November 15 letter sent to the Natural Resources Board, Bies says he'd like to see the hunting dates be November 1 through April 30 instead of October 15 through the Thursday prior to Memorial Day.
Bies also has concerns about the proximity of Gibraltar School to Peninsula State Park and compliance with the state's law prohibiting firearms within 1,000 feet of school grounds.
DoorCountyDailyNews.com also attempted to reach Sen. Frank Lasee (R-De Pere) for comment but was unsuccessful.
Friday is the deadline to submit comments on the implementation of the law. Comments can be emailed to DNRWisconsinParks@wisconsin.gov. Proposed state park hunting maps for 2013 can be viewed at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/hunt/.
