"Adopt A Soldier" This Veterans Day

The Door County Adopt A Soldier Program offers a way of helping out and honoring our troops for Veterans Day tomorrow. The group is looking for donations to send care packages to our local troops serving overseas.

Adopt A Soldier Director Nancy Hutchinson says she came up with the program as a way to say thank you to those fighting for our country from Door County.

Adopt A Soldier looks for items such as hand and foot warmers, lip balm, macaroni and cheese, chewing gum, beef jerky, ramen noodles, or various other household or food items.

Items can be dropped off at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay, The Door County YMCAs, Greystone Castle, NEW Industries, Econo Foods, Bay Shipbuilding, and the Sturgeon Bay Senior Center.

Hutchinson says a lot of the people supporting the program as of late are AmVets, still looking to serve their country and help out fellow soldiers. Students from Sturgeon Bay High School recently collected items for packages to arrive in the hands of troops in time for Thanksgiving -- now donations are needed for Christmas and holiday care packages.

Funds can also be donated to Adopt A Soldier. Checks can be made out to the Forestville American Legion. Mail donations to Nancy Hutchinson, 5676 Trails End Court, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. Funds donated are tax deductible.
