Hi, I am Madelyn DePrey from the YMCA, guest reporting for DoorCountyDailyNews.com. With treat or treating behind us and the cold setting in, it ‘tis the season to SHOP FOR A REASON! On the trek for a perfect holiday gift? Why not buy local, support a great cause and munch on holiday goods while you shop? Join the Door County YMCA for their 26th annual Christmas Folk Art Fair on Sunday, November 18th from 9:00am – 3:00pm at the Sturgeon Bay Program Center. The art fair will feature a plethora of one-of-a-kind works of art from many of the favorite artists and fine crafts persons who participate each year, plus over a dozen new artists from around the Midwest. Some of the work available for purchase includes watercolor paintings, Door County photography, henna body art, handcrafted jewelry, pet portraits, homemade soaps, birdhouses, wreaths, greeting cards, mittens, decorative items and much more.
The art fair is a great opportunity to mingle with talented artists and community members, shop to your heart’s content, and enjoy a fabulous spread of baked goods, soups, and sandwiches, while supporting the Door County YMCA Youth in Government Program. A silent auction with everything from Vera Bradley purses to hotel stays and vintage jewelry will also be taking place all day. Admission is $3.00 for attendees ages 16 and older.
Founded in 1947, the YMCA Youth in Government is a nationwide program that provides students in grades 7-12 an opportunity to experience the democratic process firsthand. Proceeds from the Folk Art Fair make it possible for Youth in Government students to attend a four-day legislative session in Madison each spring.
If you would like to donate food or silent auction items for the folk art fair, please contact Madelyn DePrey at the Door County YMCA at 743-4949. ‘Tis the season to shop for a reason!’ See you at the Folk Art Fair on November 18th!
