An electrifying project is going on at Peninsula State Park.
Park Naturalist Kathleen Harris says work is going on to upgrade sites from 30 to 50 amps and convert several non-electric sites to electric. Harris says that's the reason for the big trucks. It means the affected campgrounds will be closed to foot traffic this fall through next spring, but most hiking trails and view-scapes will remain open.
One of the other projects underway at the park is the restoration of Nicolet Beach. Harris says native grasses have been planted and the retaining wall has been removed. She says the temporary, one-year fencing is necessary to help the plants get established. Harris says the end result of the project will be improved water quality and incorporation of native plants at the beach.
