The Door County Sheriff's Office has received a $5,666 grant from the Department of Justice to help reimburse the cost of incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens.
Sheriff Terry Vogel says the efforts of Jail Lieutenant Tammy Sternard and her staff were instrumental in obtaining the funding.
Door County used the services of Dallas-based Justice Benefits, Inc. to apply for the award. JBI is a public sector consulting firm that specializes in obtaining federal reimbursements for state and local entities.
Door County was one of 890 out of 3,140 eligible local entities in the U.S. that successfully applied for the funds.
