Several Door County employers were recognized by the Door County Board Tuesday for their efforts in hiring workers with disabilities.
Appletree Kennels of Sturgeon Bay received the Governor's award, with recognition awards presented to the Advocate, Hearthstone Assisted Living Facility, McDonald's of Sturgeon Bay, and Wienke's Market.
Megan Dietz, placement specialist with NEW Curative Rehabilitation, says individuals with disabilities represent an untapped labor market.
In addition to NEW Curative Rehabilitation, Tuesday's event was sponsored by Door County Department of Community Programs, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Women's Employment Project and Sunshine House.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
